Why do I feel like I stop breathing when im falling asleep
Sleep medicine 22 years experience. This has been reoccurring with more and more frequency over the last few weeks. This has a profound effect on a person's sleep quality and overall health. When i try to focus on it, it just feels awkward.Feeling like you stop breathing when you are falling asleep, jolts you awake.
Obstructive sleep apnea is the most common reason people stop breathing during sleep.Exhaustion is one of the biggest symptoms of sleep apnea. As im falling asleep, i feel like my body stops breathing, then i wake up gasping for air.It may cause you to stop breathing for periods of twenty to thirty seconds at a time, many times during the course of the night.I feel like i stop breathing when i'm drifting off to sleep.
Tends to happen when i get in a state of being over aware of my breathing and instead of it being an automatic process it becomes a manual one.Mostly because of this i never want to take a nap.Once you start drifting off it's like your brain is trying to take over breathing duties but subconsciously you are still trying to manually control your breathing. You may wake up abruptly gasping. Now all the tests are done and i don't have to be nervous anymore.
And i got myself into a terrible state about it.Breathing and relaxation exercises definitely help (which i need to start doing again!).These are muscle sensations that can happen in your arms, legs or your whole body which generates the sensation of falling or not breathing. If you quit breathing, they will do nothing to help you breathe.
